An immersive, interactive culinary journey where guests learn to prepare, cook, and enjoy authentic Tanzanian dishes using locally sourced ingredients, guided by Mama Shofu and her culinary team.

Experience Structure & Procedure

  1. Warm Welcome & Cultural Briefing (15–20 min)
  • Guests are welcomed with a traditional Tanzanian drink (e.g., hibiscus juice or ginger tea).
  • Introduction to Tanzanian culinary culture, food customs, and daily life.
  • Overview of the dishes to be prepared, including a brief history and regional significance.

 

  1. Ingredient Exploration & Preparation (30 min)
  • Guests engage in identifying and preparing fresh local ingredients (spices, vegetables, grains, etc.).
  • Optional: Visit a nearby local market (with advance arrangement).

 

  1. Hands-On Cooking Session (60–75 min)
  • Participants are guided step-by-step in preparing 2–3 traditional dishes. Example options:
    • Ugali (stiff maize porridge)
    • Nyama Choma (grilled meat)
    • Mchicha (local spinach stew)
    • Chapati (flatbread)
    • Pilau (spiced rice)
    • Makande (pealed corn and beans)
    • Kachumbari (fresh tomato-onion salad)

All recipes are taught in a participatory, fun, and engaging way.

 

  1. Dining & Sharing (30 min)
  • Guests enjoy the meal they prepared together, served in a communal, family-style setup.
  • Additional local dishes may be included to enrich the experience.
  • Opportunity to interact with Mama Shofu and ask questions.

 

  1. Farewell & Takeaway (10 min)
  • Guests receive:
    • Printed recipe booklet
    • Thank you gift (e.g., spice pack or kitenge napkin)
  • Group photo session and guestbook signing.
